The Raider Daughter The Raider Series Book 2 edition by Kimberly Cates Literature Fiction eBooks

I just finished reading Kimberly Cates' "The Raider's Daughter" and loved every minute of it! Unable to put it down, I hid away in my private study in an attempt to avoid interruptions from my husband and son. After all, I had fallen in love with the Earl of Valcour. All others would just have to take a number and get in line behind him!

In "The Raider's Daughter," Ms. Cates has spun out a sexy tale, full of suspense. The hero is to die for, and the heroine is as spunky as an adult as she was as a child (see "The Raider's Bride"), a rare occurrence, as so many authors "raise" strong child characters to be nit-wits. Not here! Lucy is a delightful challenge for a delightfully complicated man.

Another big hit by Kimberly Cates!

I would like to take a moment to thank Ms. Cates for taking a personal interest in her readers. I experienced a glitch in downloading this book to my kindle. Ms. Cates looked in to my predicament immediately and helped me resolve the problem, demonstrating a true commitment to her readers.

The Raider Daughter The Raider Series Book 2 edition by Kimberly Cates Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

Well written and edited except for a few plot holes.

This is a great sequel to The Raider's Wife, although you wouldn't have had to have read that book first. In fact, I was glad the past was reviewed here because I had forgotten some of it.

Lucy is rebellious, headstrong and overconfident, but unlike most heroines with those traits she was not obnoxious. She also was vulnerable and doubted herself. Valcour of course is attractive and filled with dark secrets I was eager to see revealed. As in The Raider's Wife, I love the way music and Lucy's song become part of the plot and are expanded upon beautifully. (I still want to hear the song!)

I thoroughly enjoyed the first kissing scene. It is not with Valcour, and it is hilarious. The book also has a child character who is as appealing as little Lucy was in the previous book (in a totally different way).

At times the plot seems predictable, but you're not sure you're right (or wrong) until the end. (The author uses language that reflects what the characters believe to be true.)

There do seem to be some plot holes--how does the room at the top of the tower stay clean? How did they get the pianoforte up there? How does the villain get himself and Lucy to the graveyard? When Jasper is introduced, it's not clear where he fits in to the family. I eventually figured out he is the brother of Alexander and Edward (the current duke) who is mentioned but not named by Emily's mother at the beginning of the book.

I'm still giving it five stars because I still loved it.
This second book of The Raider's Series is much better than the first. The plot is edgy and the writing is very good...keeps you on the edge. I actually could not stand Lucy for most of this story...she's self-centered, immature, bitchy. Of course, I wasn't too crazy about Valcour, either. So to not like either of the two main characters but still continue reading this book is a first for me...I didn't lose interest. The plot was so good I wanted to find out what happened next. Cates is very good at dialogue and suspense. Her characters are very real with all their foibles and scars. I would definitely recommend this book, and I now go onto the third book of the series.
This book has EVERYTHING you'd ever want in a Historical Romance! It has a hero that has sealed his heart away and been through a terrible childhood experience that included his mother and father. His father was a wastrel and mean tempered a real villain!
As the book opens, Lucy is the adoptive daughter of a famous Revolutionary hero and her mother had been through horrific times trying to just live and have food. Part of Lucy's childhood was a living nightmare caused by her father's maniac family and she's separated from her mother. They get together but Lucy gets a letter from her "dead" father and Lucy doesn't want her mother & father to know her real father might be alive. SO the hoyden of a girl, who is regularly climbing out her window in the middle of the night to help someone that is being terrorized, heads to England and our story really step up to high gear!

She gets to England and meets up with this wonderful man who she "hates" (of course) but it's a hate-love thing and Lucy is headstrong and brave and keeps running into problems and needs rescuing or sometimes not.

One adventure after another throws Lucy and Lucien together and both discover they have similar backgrounds but with varied causes! THEN they find their disastrous childhoods are intertwined.

The way this book twists and turns is intriguing and the "Song of the Night" that her father wrote for her--becomes a beacon of love and this story ends like a rose opening up to review the most wondrous of twists! This book leaves you feeling breathless and give you an "ahh" feeling! I LOVED IT!
The second book in the Raider series is just as good as the first, and follows up with Lucy, Pendragon and Emily's headstrong daughter all grown up and off to England to solve the mystery of her supposedly dead father. If you have read "The Raiders Bride" you will know the back story, but Cates does a good job of filling in the new reader with the reasons Lucy pulls all the capers she gets herself into. The plot is so intricate, the people so real, their stories so believable that you can't help but ache for them. Dominic and Lucy will each have to face the dark secrets of their past and do a lot of soul searching. There are many touching moments the reader will wish they could have for themselves. The plot is fantastic! A must read!
